Guidelines for Basic and Master Catechists Certification are on links below. Note that this certification is for the Sate of California and all arch/dioceses included. It is granted to all Parish Catechetical Leaders and catechists in all forms of catechetical ministry.

The Tongan Community gathers at Pius X Awards to be recognized for the Basic Catechist Certification specialization in Tongan Catechesis.

National Certification Standards

NCCL, NYCYM, NALM and NAPM (National Association of Pastoral Musicians) all have certification standards approved by the USCCB Commission on Certification and Accreditation. In late 2006, the four organizations updated National Certification Standards for Lay Ecclesial Ministers to include NAPM's newly approved standards and competencies. Catechist Formation is offered throughout the Archdiocese. Contact through the Archdiocesean Office of Religious Education and Youth Ministry can establish formation at your site. Trainers hold a Master Catechists Certificate from the Bishops of California in conjunction with the Archdiocesean Office.
